Facebook’s dating site was due to launch a day before valentines day , but on Thursday 13 February, the EU pulled the plug on it due to serious data protection concerns. The social media giant failed to pass Irish data security regulations by not submitting adequate documentation. The DPC said it had been told about the feature just 10 days ahead of the planned launch and “no information or documentation was provided to us”. Facebook later informed the Irish authority that is was halting the roll-out of its new app until it was able to supply the information required. Since the UK is still bound by EU laws and regulations during the Brexit transition period, the launch of the app will be impacted. Facebook claims it has provided the necessary paperwork, and said in a statement: “It’s really important that we get the launch of Facebook Dating right, so we are taking a bit more time to make sure the product is ready for the European market. The app allows users to share and collate photographs, as well as track photographers and collections over time. Like dating platforms Tinder and Bumble, users of Facebook Dating will upload photographs and bios to match up with that special someone. Facebook intends to launch its own dating up that could potentially threaten the network on Bumble and Tinder by relocating their users onto its own platform.

Couples have been forced to make the choice to move in together or spend the lockdown apart, while those who are still looking for that special someone have had to get creative with Zoom calls or Facetime. The Alone Together podcast is back for a second series, and this episode explores the changes to dating and relationships over the past few extraordinary months. According to a new report from Relate and eHarmony, over a third of couples 36 per cent agree that two months in isolation feels equivalent to two years of commitment.

She advises: “Talk about the expectations you have, don’t make assumptions, communicate what you’re thinking and feeling, and ask the other person what they’re thinking and feeling. The lockdown has also seen more people try online dating with sign-ups to sites such as eHarmony, increasing by half. Rachael Lloyd, relationship expert at eHarmony, explains how the lockdown has affected the way we date — and why those who are single should not give up on finding love.

She said: “If you stick at online dating and want a meaningful relationship, just persist and keep a sense of humour, because you will eventually find love. I believe there’s someone for everyone. While dating apps are a useful way to meet people online, they can also come with hidden dangers – like when the person you’re talking to isn’t.

Some may opt for mingling in social settings, while others might try their luck at online dating. But those brave enough could meet the person of their dreams in a more public setting, on TV dating series First Dates and First Dates Hotel. The popular Channel 4 documentary series is calling for applicants to take part in the next series. The programme helps contributors find a partner from a pool of other singletons, with the highs and lows of first dates captured on camera.

Each episode will feature a number of intimate first dates, with couples enjoying a meal together in a romantic restaurant setting. Singletons also look for love at the idyllic First Dates Hotel in Campania, Italy, located just over an hour’s drive away from Naples. Applicants will also be asked to participate in in-depth interviews to help viewers get to know the daters.

Discreet cameras will record the date from start to finish, documenting first impressions, through to all of the awkward, funny and heart-warming moments. At the end of the evening, daters will be asked to discuss their impressions and how it went – and whether a second date will be on the cards.

Toffee is to help toffs better twiddle that key. But as I say, I do sympathise. The sense of swimming through a sea of romantic junk food, subsisting on a diet of a piece of fried chicken here, a cheeseburger there, also hit me the second I turned to internet dating when a lengthy relationship ended in July After an initial and horrifying initial deep dive into a number of websites, as well as Tinder, the urge to cut out the dross was very strong indeed.

I too would have jumped at the chance to narrow down the field to people like me. Somehow I persisted, though, and soon noticed something funny — whenever I tried a dating service that purported to be socially exclusive in any way, I made fewer and worse matches. First, when it comes to dating, promises of social exclusivity are bunk. Not only was this evident in my experience, it also emerged in the PhD research I was conducting at the time about the British matchmaking industry in the s and s.

The dating entrepreneurs I studied all boasted about how exclusive their outfits were, but when I interviewed people who had actually used these services, they all said their dates were no better — and often worse — than the ones they encountered in less exalted forums.
